Nodirbek Abdusattorov will compete in the Quantbox Chennai Grand Masters chess tournament from July 16 to 22.

What's at stake?

The tournament features a high-quality field, including Indian Grandmaster Arjun Erigaisi and World champion D. Gukesh.

Who's participating?

Arjun Erigaisi, the top-ranked Indian as of FIDE’s June rankings, will hope to put his best foot forward in a strong field.

What comes next?

Gukesh, gearing up for the defence of his World title, will use the event to fine-tune his preparations for the big match against Uzbek Javokhir Sindarov.

The rest of the line-up will be announced by next week, said Grandmaster Srinath Narayanan, part of the organising team.

The tournament will only feature the Masters section this year, as against the two categories in the 2025 edition.

M. Pranesh, the winner of the Challengers event last year, will also be in the fray.

American GM Hans Niemann joins the field, making it a highly competitive event.

The event is scheduled to take place from July 16 to 22, with the exact schedule to be announced soon.
